What exactly is a "slug"?

The part of a URL that identifies a specific page in readable form — in example.com/blog/my-first-post, my-first-post is the slug. Lowercase, hyphen-separated, and free of spaces or special characters, so it works reliably in a URL and reads clearly to both people and search engines.

How does it handle accented characters?

It strips the accent and keeps the base letter — café becomes cafe, naïve becomes naive. This covers accented Latin script broadly: French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and similar.

Does it support Cyrillic and other non-Latin scripts?
